У чоловіків рівень антитіл після безсимптомного COVID-19 втричі вищий, ніж у жінок

Чоловіки більше схильні до важкого перебігу COVID-19 і частіше вмирають в порівнянні з жінками. Але при цьому представники чоловічої статі, які перенесли коронавірус безсимптомно, швидше за все будуть краще захищені від повторного зараження.

Вчені провели тестування 739 працівників Кардіфського столичного Університету, у яких не було ніяких симптомів коронавірусу. Для надійності дослідники використовували три різні тест-системи. Антитіла до коронавірусу виявилися у 3,65% добровольців.

Вчені не виявили статистично значущої різниці в співвідношенні чоловіків і жінок, які перенесли коронавірус, однак найчастіше антитіла виявлялися у чоловіків старше 40 років. Однак після порівняння показників з’ясувалося, що у добровольців чоловічої статі титр антитіл був у три рази вищим, ніж у жінок.

Через три місяці вчені провели повторне тестування, щоб відстежити динаміку антитіл, і з’ясували, що у 21,7% добровольців, які раніше мали позитивний тест, антитіл більше не виявилося. Ймовірно, всі вони заразилися коронавірусом шість місяців тому, що вказує на можливу середню тривалість життя антитіл.

Найголовнішим відкриттям було те, що в 80% випадків антитіла зникали у жінок, причому в основному у представниць середнього та старшого віку.

«Це може бути пов’язано зі зміненою імунною відповіддю у жінок, які наближаються до менопаузи або в постменопаузі, подібно до того, як це спостерігається при грипі. В цілому наші результати показують, що в оцінці імунітету до COVID-19 і його стійкості ми повинні бути готові до того, що вони не будуть однорідними. Залежно від статі та віку можуть бути серйозні відмінності», – пояснили науковці.
