Уродженка Чернівців Інна Вернікова стала депутаткою мерії Нью-Йорка

До 12 років вона жила і ходила до школи у Чернівцях, після чого з родиною емігрувала до США.
У Нью-Йорку на виборах до муніципальної ради здобула перемогу 37-річна уродженка Чернівців Інна Вернікова (Inna Vernikov). Про це інформує “Голос Америки”.

Адвокатка у справах шлюбу та імміграції Інна Вернікова перемогла на 48-му окрузі і стала членом міської ради Нью-Йорка. Інна балотувалась у депутати від Республіканської партії. На минулих президентських виборах вона голосувала за Дональда Трампа, тоді як жителі Нью-Йорка підтримують переважно демократів.

Як повідомляє detaly.co.il, Інна Вернікова навчалася у 41-й школі Чернівців – першій загальноосвітній єврейській школі України.

Після приїзду до США Інна вчилась у Барух-коледжі. У юридичній школі штату Флорида Інна була президентом Асоціації єврейських студентів-юристів і переконала адміністрацію свого університету перенести традиційну церемонію вручення випускних дипломів із суботи на неділю.

Вона розповідає, що мріяла стати адвокатом з самого дитинства.

“Кожного разу, коли я бачила якусь несправедливість, у мене виникало відчуття, що я маю це виправити”, — зазначає новоспечена депутатка.

За її словами, рішення балотуватися ухвалила після того, як у своїй машині на Бруклінському мосту зазнала нападу хуліганів під час акції протесту Black Lives Matter.

Тепер жінка має припинити свою юридичну практику. Депутатам у Нью-Йорку платять гроші, та Інна говорить, що зароблятиме тепер значно менше. До речі, під час пандемії вона працювала волонтером у місцевій їдальні.
