ООН заявила про наймасштабнішу гуманітарну кризу з 1945 року

Організація Об’єднаних Націй заявила про те, що світ знаходиться на порозі наймасштабнішої гуманітарної кризи з 1945 року.
За даними ООН, більш ніж 20 млн людей в чотирьох країнах – Ємені, Південному Судані, Сомалі та Нігерії – загрожує голод.


За словами заступника генерального секретаря ООН з гуманітарних питань Стівена О’Брайена, якщо не вжити термінових заходів, складна гуманітарна ситуація в цих країнах стане катастрофічною.
“Без колективних і скоординованих зусиль глобального масштабу, люди [в цих країнах] просто помруть від голоду”, – заявив пан О’Брайен.

У Сомалі за два дні понад 100 людей померли від голоду
За його словами, щоб уникнути катастрофи, потрібно доставити в названі країни гуманітарну допомогу на суму в 4,4 млрд доларів до липня цього року.
“З початку року ми зіткнулися з найбільшою з моменту створення ООН гуманітарною кризою”, – підкреслив представник організації.
На тлі збройних конфліктів гуманітарна ситуація в Сомалі, Ємені та Південному Судані за останні роки значно погіршилася.
Погіршення ситуації в Нігерії пов’язано з активністю радикальних ісламістів та зіткненнями на релігійному ґрунті.

У січні Стівен О’Брайен заявляв, що військовий конфлікт в Ємені може стати причиною найбільшого за своїми масштабами голоду.
У своєму виступі на засіданні Ради Безпеки, він підкреслив, що близько 10 млн жителів Ємену (з них більше двох мільйонів – діти) відчувають нестачу продуктів харчування, багато з них перебувають на межі голодної смерті.
Наприкінці лютого ООН вперше за останні шість років оголосила про ситуацію масового голоду. Тоді це стосувалося ситуації в кількох районах Південного Судану.
За даними Всесвітньої продовольчої програми ООН, майже 100 тисяч жителів цієї країни можуть загинути найближчим часом, якщо в країну не почне надходити гуманітарна допомога в достатніх обсягах.
