Джон Маккейн у ході суперечки у Сенаті заявив, що відомий сенатор-республіканець Ренд Пол працює на Путіна. Про це повідомляє The Daily Beast.

Репліка прозвучала у ході суперечки між законодавцями під час дискусії з приводу законопроекту на підтримку вступу Чорногорії до НАТО. Останній законопроект викликав заперечення у Ренда Пола.


У відповідь Маккейн з трибуни заявив, що Пол “працює на мету Путіна… розчленувати маленьку країну, яка вже стала жертвою спроби перевороту”.

“Ті, хто виступає проти, фактично виконують забаганки та прагнення Путіна, і я розумію вагу моїх слів”, – продовжував Маккейн.

У відповідь Пол взяв слово, повторивши заперечення з приводу законопроекту, а за тим обурено залишив залу засідань.

Після цього Маккейн прямо звинуватив колегу у роботі на Путіна:

“Я знову повторю, сенатор від штату Кентукі (штат, який представляє Ренд Пол – прим. ГА) тепер працює на Володимира Путіна”.

Пізніше прес-служба Маккейна від імені Чорногорії зажадала у Ренда Пола пояснення, чому він “намагався завадити цій мужній країні приєднатись до сил, які захищають світ”.

Зі свого боку, Пол пропустив звинувачення у співпраці із Кремлем та заявив, що критично ставиться до розширення НАТО з огляду на те, що США вже обтяжені значними витратами на оборону та 20-трильйонним державним боргом.

Пізніше в інтерв’ю каналу MSNBC законодавець відзначив, що поведінка Маккейна є підтвердженням необхідності запровадження граничної межі перебування у Сенаті. Він також додав, що Маккейн повністю “злетів з петель” та “сильно здав”. Як відомо, вік Джона Маккейна складає 80 років.
