Протез пам’яті для мозку

Американські вчені випробували імплантат для мозку, який посилив здатність до запам’ятовування слів в середньому на 15%. Робота, представлена вченими з університету Південної Каліфорнії і медичного центру Уейк-Форест, допомогла пацієнтам з нейродегенеративними захворюваннями підвищити ефективність епізодичної пам’яті на 37%.

 

В новому дослідженні науковці сфокусувалися на короткочасній пам’яті, адже вона найчастіше страждає під час хвороби Альцгеймера, інсульті та травмах голови. Медики відібрали добровольців, які взяли участь в картуванні мозку за допомогою електродів, їх помістили в різні відділи, аби визначити проблемні зони. Для того, щоб впливати на нейрони гіпокампу, відповідальні за епізодичну пам’ять, фахівці використовували електронну систему, засновану на нелінійній математичній моделі MIMO – багатопотоковій передачі даних.

Спочатку дослідники записали нейронні “коди” під час початкової вправи. Пацієнтам показували один колір і через деякий час просили вибрати його ж із запропонованих на екрані. Вчені аналізували дані з електродів тих, хто дав правильні відповіді, і синтезували код, заснований на MIMO, для правильної роботи пам’яті. Цей код відтворювали при повторних тестах, які виявили поліпшення епізодичної пам’яті на 37%.

Ми показали, що можемо підтримувати і покращувати здатності самих пацієнтів. Навіть коли пам’ять людини порушена, є можливість знайти моделі належного функціонування та відокремити їх від помилкових. Ми допоможемо людям використовувати тільки вірні шаблони для формування нових спогадів. Тим самим простимулюємо вроджений хист, а не замінимо їх. У майбутньому сподіваємося допомогти пацієнтам утримувати спогади, – розповів керівник дослідження Роберт Хемпсон.

Під час другого тесту учасникам показували кілька фотографій, а через кілька хвилин просили вказати на них серед чотирьох або п’яти інших зображень. Потім знову записували код правильних відповідей. Через 75 хвилин процедура повторювалася із застосуванням цього коду – результат покращився на 35%.
