Саме тому недоношені діти – особливо ті, які народились на 23 чи 24 тижні – починають життя у невигідному становищі.

“Журнал Американської медичної асоціації” (Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) опублікував дослідження, яке вивчало розвиток дітей, котрі завчасно з’явились на світ, пише TIME.

Вчені виявили, що більшість недоношених дітей, навіть тих, які народились надто маленьними, готові йти у садочок вчасно і вчитися так само добре у початковій та середній школах, як інші діти.

Частина з них досягає високих оцінок на тестах на обдарованість.

З 1960-х років прогнози для недоношених діток суттєво покращились.

Колись народжений на 32-му тижні малюк мав дуже невизначені шанси на життя. Тепер 95% таких немовлят виписують з лікарні додому здоровими.

Діти, народжені на 25-му тижні, мають ті ж шанси, що й раніше: 76%. Ризик для 24-тижневих малюків значно більший – 56%.

У немовлят, які з’явились на світ на 23 тижні – лише 26% шансів, а у народжених на 22-му тижні – лише 5%.

Недоношені малята, які виживають, можуть зіштовхнутись з багатьма фізичними викликами і питаннями розвитку – когнітивні функції завжди були одними з найважчих для аналізу.

Щоб трохи прояснити ситуацію, професор педіатрії Крег Гарфілд з Північно-західного університету разом з колегами шукали усіх дітей, народжених у штаті Флорида з 1992 по 2002 роки.

Вони проаналізували 1,3 мільйони таких малюків і виявили, що лише 925 з них народились між 23 та 24 тижнями.

65% таких дітей були готовими до дитсадка вчасно. Серед народжених 9-місячних таких – 85%.

Діти, народжені 23-го тижня, виконали 2/3 від усіх завдань всестороннього тесту, порівняно з тими, хто народився у визначений термін.

На шкалі від 0 до 800 це означає дефіцит на 66 балів: певний недолік, але не фатальний.

Діти, народжені між 29 і 30 тижнем, будуть лише на 18 пунктів позаду інших. А ті, хто народився між 35 і 36 тижнями, відстануть на непомітних три бали з 800.

Дивовижно, але 33.5% дітей, народжених надто завчасно, оцінили як дітей з низькими академічними здібностями порівняно з 5,8% доношених малюків.

Втім це хороші результати. Адже дві третини недоношених дітей розвивається в нормальному діапазоні. Це більше, ніж більшість батьків очікують.

Більшість недоношених малюків не лише відповідають достатньому шкільному рівню. Деякі з них справляються фантастично.

Вчені додають, що батьки недоношених немовлят, лікарі і вчителі постійно вчаться, як покращувати ситуацію. Тому малюки, які передчасно з’явились на світі, мають кращі шанси на повноцінне життя.
