Фотограф із Києва Анастасія Котельник з’ясовує це у своєму проекті «Імміграційна мрія». Зараз вона подорожує Сполученими Штатами і збирає історії.

Свій проект я знімаю в будинках людей, тому що це, на мій погляд, найкраще розкриває життя та побут емігрантів з України, показує їх життя в деталях
“Мені дуже подобається бачити, як тут влаштувались наші українці. Також я знімаю в офісах, якщо це якась відома компанія, креативний офіс, і людина пишається тим, що вона там працює,” розповідає Голосу Америки Котельник під час зйомок своїх чергових героїв.

Киянка знімала українсько-американське подружжя Юлію Бліндюк і Кена Вілліса у домі разом із їхньою собакою. Зазвичай, під час подібних зйомок, фотограф просить героїв займатися щоденними справами у кадрі. Наприклад, зготувати сніданок. Цього разу, завершивши зйомку у домі вони йдуть на вулицю, щоб зробити серію знімків під час прогулянки із собаками.

Вийшовши на двір, фотограф починає давати вказівки подружжю, – “і от просто відчувайте: це наше життя, це наш будинок, ми в цьому моменті, в цій історії, ми тут живемо зараз. І передайте це у своїх виразах облич.”

Вибрані кадри увійдуть до фотокниги та будуть представлені на виставці у Києві. Але онлайн Анастасія опублікує серії фотографій разом з історіями героїв. Тож після зйомки всі повертаються додому, щоб поспілкуватись.

Ця пара познайомилась у Києві, куди Кен приїхав вчити російську мову. “У той час я їздив туди й назад між Україною і США, і в якийсь момент я вирішив залишитись в Україні на кілька тижнів. А потім запросив її приїхати до мене.”

І хоча Бліндюк не була у Сполучених Штатах сама, складнощів адаптації було не уникнути. “Коли я зрозуміла, що тут залишуся, було трохи дивно, тому що я тут нікого не знала,” розповідає вона. “Всі мої друзі, вся моя родина – всі в Україні. Сюди ніхто не приїде, їм там подобається. І потрібно було адаптуватися до американського стилю життя. Тому що воно здається схожим, але не таке воно вже й схоже. Дуже багато треба вчити, по-іншому розмовляти. Але через деякий час я до цього звикла.”

Загалом фотопроект Котельник охоплює до трьох десятків історій у восьми американських містах. Уже були Нью-Йорк, Вашингтон, Чикаго, Денвер та Солт-Лейк-Сіті. Попереду– Лас-Вегас, Лос-Анджелес і Сан-Франциско.

Цей проект важливий і для українців, які уже емігрували у США, тому що вони можуть відчути, що вони тут не самі, в усіх є якісь спільні історії, моменти, складнощі й радощі перемог.

Фінансує проект – а це 2 тисячі доларів – організація «Люміноус Ендаумент» – фонд, що надає гранти для фотографів з усього світу, які мають конкретну мету: провести виставку, видати книгу, зняти значущу подію чи власний проект. Необхідно податись онлайн, надати зразки творів і описати, чому проект заслуговує на підтримку.
