Його дружина, оперна співачка і екс-депутат від “Єдиної Росії”, Марія Максакова разом з ним переїхала в Україну.

Депутатом Держдуми Вороненков став у 2011 році, провівши в парламенті Росії одне скликання.

Як пише “Медуза” в Росії депутат був фігурантом як мінімум двох кримінальних справ: його підозрювали в рейдерському захопленні будівлі в Москві і хабарництві. Проте позбавити депутатського імунітету Вороненкова не змогли.

У лютому 2017 року Вороненков заявив, що в грудні 2016 року одержав українське громадянство.

“Я вже громадянин України. 4 грудня закінчилися мої повноваження депутата Державної Думи, а 6 грудня я став громадянином України”, – сказав він в інтерв’ю виданню “Цензор”.

Пізніше Генпрокурор Юрій Луценко повідомив, що Вороненков отримав громадянство, оскільки мав близьких родичів в Україні.

В цьому ж інтерв’ю Вороненков заявляв, що у 2014 році не голосував за анексію Криму, оскільки його не було в залі і хтось скористався його депутатською карткою. Генпрокуратура України обіцяла перевірити цей факт.

Про те, що Вороненков почав давати свідчення Генпрокуратурі у справі держради Януковича, у січні написало російське видання “Коммерсант”.

Вказувалося, що Вороненков частково підтвердив слідчим свідчення, які раніше дав інший колишній російський депутат Ілля Пономарьов, який отримав влітку 2016 року посвідку на проживання в Україні.
Довгий час Пономарьов вважався одним з ключових свідків у цій справі. Саме на зустріч із ним Вороненков йшов у день смерті.

Про свідчення Пономарьова і Вороненкова генпрокурор Луценко у лютому говорив:

“Ми допитали двох депутатів Держдуми РФ. Вони свідчать про те, що механізм введення військ РФ на територію України був запущений Кремлем ще в грудні, коли Майдан ще стояв в центрі Києва. Під час візиту Суркова (помічник президента РФ Владислав Сурков) в грудні вже говорилося про ймовірне військове вторгнення”.

3 березня слідчий комітет Росії попросив Басманний суд заочно заарештувати Вороненкова, якого в РФ звинувачують у шахрайстві.

Як відомо, 20 лютого у Нью-Йорку помер постійний представник Росії при ООН Віталій Чуркін. Згідно із матеріалами ГПУ Чуркін був одним із головних свідків у справі держзради Віктора Януковича.

До слова, як зазначають джерела з близького оточення дружини Вороненкова, вона зараз вагітна четвертою дитиною.
